Grace Cook Williams began her life in Sumter, SC. on December 16, 1917. Wednesday evening on November 17,2010 at the Carolina Pine Hospital; the Lord very gracefully and peacefully summoned his angel; to bring her to live with him forever.
Mama was the first child born to her mother and father, Josephine and Augustus Cook. She was educated in the Sumter Public School (Lee County), SC. She gave her life to Christ at an earlier age at Mechanicsville Baptist Church in Sumter,SC.
In 1934 she moved to Hartsville,SC where she met and married Nathaniel Williams, who preceded her in death in 1987. From their union was born eight children.
She worked as a Domestic Engineer with the Roy Holloman's Family in Hartsville for many years, which grew into a family relationship; even until this present day. She also worked as a cook for the Hartsville Junior High School until she retired.
She was an active member at the Centerville A.M.E Church in Hartsville,SC. She sung on the Gospel Chorus and worked on the Helping Hands Committee until she became ill. Mama cooked and fed many people and children in the Hartsville area all her life. She was a great homemaker and love children. She was a woman that fear and loved the Lord Jesus. She was very humble, sweet and very kind to everyone she met. She loved her family, relatives, and neighbors. Mama accepted everyone she came in contact with and never considered them as a stranger. She enjoyed talking with people and sharing the good news of the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Williams and son Sam Williams (deceased), wife Thelma Williams. Two brothers, Joseph and William Cook and two sisters Annie Mae Thomas and Viola Davis.
Those left to cherish her memories; a devoted sister, Nancy Lee Ham (Bishop Robert L. Ham Sr., deceased) of Darlington,SC; a devoted brother Augustus Cook (Naomi, deceased) of Hartsville,SC; seven children, Marie Brown of Willingboro,NJ, Nathaniel Williams Jr. of Hartsville,SC, Heyward Williams (Althamese) of Temple Hills, MD, Grade Hicks (Cleveland) of Plainfield,NJ, Sarah Morris (George) of Newark, NJ, Minnie Williams of Hartsville SC and Evangelist Katie Mae George of Newark, NJ; she leaves, 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 7 great -great-grandchilren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
