Funeral service for Ms. Jessie Mae Smith will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday at New Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Young and Young Funeral Home of Hartsville,SC.

Ms. Jessie Mae Smith was born in Darlington County on March 18,1940. She was the daughter of the late Ervin and Jessie Brown Smith. She educated in public schools of the area and was a 1957 graduate of Rosenwald High School in Society Hill, South Carolina.

Because Jessie Mae was raised in a loving Christian home, she knew the importance of having an intimate relationship with the Master. At an early age she confessed Christ as her Savior and joined the New Hopewell Baptist Church. She was a devoted and loyal member of the church and supported in all manners available. She was a sevant. She served on the Choir, Missionary Society, Ladies Sunday School Teacher, Home Bound Ministry and the Youth Department. She especially enjoyed working with the youths. She wanted the youths in the church and community to deveop thier full potential.

She was a hard worker and worked at various jobs over the years. She retired from Sara Lee Hosiery in Hartsville,SC. Because she industrious, she was considered a diligent and dedicated worker.

Jessie Mae enjoyed cooking and working in her garden. When she cooked she wanted all to enjoyed. Her macaroni and cheese dish was second to none. She was thankful for the simple pleasures of life.

Those surviving to cherish her loss are: her sister, Mary Smith of Darlington,SC: God-son, James (Loris) McCall of Summerville,SC; three God children; one great grand God-child; four God sisters, Lizzie (Carey) McCall and Harriett (Samuel) Lewis both of Darlington,SC, Polly Knox of Charlotte,NC and Evelyn Davis of Columbia,SC; three God brothers, Purves Samuel of Washington,DC, Wallace Samuel of Ansonia,Ct and James (Evelyn) Byrd of Florence,SC;a special cousin, Peter Smith; many cousins,neighbors and friends.
